Have you ever wonder what it's like to travel for New York Fashion week? Well, today Chriselle is walking us through how she prepares for one of her biggest business trips of the year!
In preparation For Fashion Week
What is your pre-fashion week must do to prepare for the trip?
Getting in the right mindset. Fashion week is like finals week and you have to be mentally prepared and physically strong. I like to work out in the mornings and try to continue to do so during fashion week. I also like to get my skin really hydrated and glows by drinking a ton of water and maybe a facial or 2 if I have time. I also prepare a lot of accessories such as shoes and purses and bags for the week. I usually get dressed by the houses so it’s important for me to have the right accessories to top it off!
How has your travel preparation change since becoming a mother?
It has changed quite a bit since I still travel with my little one. There’s a lot of prep work to do before actually getting to pack for me! There’s a lot of little logistical things I need to think about when traveling with a baby such as making sure I find a good convenient hotel that is close to the park, making sure the hotels offer cribs and all the little things. It’s a lot of work but so many memories are made when traveling with your little ones.
Pre-flight skin tips?
Hydrate!!! Use a mist every hour and if you can’t upkeep the mist then use an overnight sleeping mask that will keep your skin even more hydrated than any moisturizer.
Any packing tips?
Use packing cubes if you are traveling for s long time and need to bring a lot of stuff!! And always bring a carry-on!
How do you pick a hotel in your Business Trip? Which one did you pick in NY and why?
A lot of it has to do with if it’s close to a park or not since I usually bring the baby with me. I’m staying at The 1 hotel in Brooklyn because of the amazing amenities and location!
How many luggage do you travel with to fashion week? What’s in them?
I usually bring 2 large suitcases and a carry-on. One for all my shoes and skincare and my other for clothes!
During fashion week
How do you prioritize what shows and events to attend during fashion week? o What’s your schedule like?
My schedule is quite busy but I'm quite selective with the shows that I want to attend. There are only so many hours in a day and you don’t want to overcommit. I try to attend anywhere from 2-3 shows a day. Supporting the brands that I’ve worked within the past to the small designers I want to support as a lot of them are my friends.
How do you practice self-care when traveling for business? How do you balance through your trip? Or If you go somewhere please tell us where?
I wake up super early and still try to get a work out in no matter how tired I am. Even if it’s for 20 mins. It really sets the tone to my day and gives me a boost of energy! I do orange theory at home and they have classes here in NY so I try to continue to do them here as well. I also try to sleep early during fashion week so I can get up early! I usually skip all the parties and night events. I also try to visit my sister and best friend and have a non-work-related day just so I can relax and unwind with them.
Where do you shop in NYC? Favorite store? Favorite area?
I used to go to Bergdorf a lot here since we don’t have that in LA but to be honest I do most of my shopping online now!! It’s so much more efficient!
Do you sneak in a workout in between shows? What’s your favorite workout when on-the-go? In NYC where do you exercise??
Always! I try to work out 3-4 times a week! I love Orange theory! If I can’t catch a class I’ll just workout at the gym.
What is the best spot (café or restaurant) in NYC for women to do a business meeting?
I would probably say The Wing but its members only!
Your favorite quick lunch place? What do you love about it?
Probably the Butchers Daughter! I love brunch there!
What’s your favorite place in NYC? And why?
I absolutely love just going to Central Park and having a picnic, especially during the springtime. There’s nothing like it, especially in LA.
What is a must-have in your handbag at all times? And why?
A portable charger, lip balm/tint, concealer, a pair of sunglasses, and some sort of snack since I’m always on the go.
Tell us something people wouldn’t guess about you while at fashion week.
The fact that I really don’t function after 8 pm so I try to avoid any night events and/or all parties. Also, I love going to Korea-town midweek to get my Korean food fix in!
After fashion week
First thing you do after returning home from fashion week?
Taking a few days off of work so I can hang out with my girls! That’s the hardest part about fashion week is being separated for so long. I really try to catch up for lost time. I also try to book a massage!
How do you unfold from business travel?
I turn off on social media for a few days and connect with my family and get caught up with my personal life! I jump right back into mom mode!
What’s your favorite type of Business Trip? And why?
When it’s short, quick, & memorable! I love being able to make the most out of 3-4 days anything beyond that seems a bit extended to me. But I also love adding a bit of pleasure into my business, for instance, this last trip I took to Venice Italy for the film festival I went for work but I also brought my husband with me and it was such an amazing time!
What’s the best business advice you have ever received? How do you apply it
There is no such thing as doing too much. Do what you can with what you have! Some things work and some things don’t... don’t get caught up on the end results but rather enjoy the process, make mistakes, and learn from them!
What advice would you give to women who travel a lot for business?
Try to stick to your normal routine as much as possible. If you work out & and eat healthy at home then do the same when you travel for work. It will keep you sane in the long run! Also, sleep & hydrate as much as you can on the plane! Sleep and water are your best friends.
