On The Go With Ana Linares
Every month we will follow creatives in the travel industry to speak to you about destinations on the radar, travel tips and more! This month we had the pleasure to catch up with Art Director and Acclaimed Photographer, who will share with us all her travel tips and favorite destinations.
Why did you start your company?
I started ananewyork because I wanted to share the way I see travel through photography and the way I connect with people when I travel. Most importantly, I started ananewyork to inspire people to travel more.
You are constantly traveling around the world which is so amazing! What is your favorite and most difficult part of having a business based on travel?
The difficult part of having a business based on travel is the downtime because that becomes very precious to me. What’s challenging is balancing that downtime because that is usually also when I need to catch up on all the work that I’ve created while being away. I do love that my job keeps me in motion. It's really what drives what I do and I couldn't see it any other way after having a corporate job for years in NYC.
What are three things you never travel without?
My camera. A sketchbook because I love sketching during my trips. A hat! I always have a hat.
Describe your inflight skincare travel routine?
I try to hydrate as much as I can. Water is the most important thing when you're up-in-the-air because you get dehydrated so easily. I carry a mini jar of La Mer cream along with a hydrating spritz for the face
What do you think makes or breaks a flying experience?
The middle seat. I love a window seat!
What are your top 3 destinations? And why?
1. India: It changed my life and perspective. It's a country that I felt a very strong connection to and it was so new to my soul. There are places that I travel that have a familiarity like Seville, Scotland or even Lisbon but not India. Every experience in India felt so new to me and magical in every level. 2. Italy...I love the southern Italy coast for its people. The people of a country are a big part of the travel experiences I have and Southern Italy has some of the warmest people and remind my Latin culture. The way they see family and friends is very similar to my culture. 2B: Paris - as a photographer, Paris is a magical place to photograph and the city is so inspiring. 3. Mexico is very special to me and I'm so excited that I started doing curated travel experiences to share my love for this country with others. I really hope more people explore Mexico and really get to know the people and culture. There's nothing like experiencing a place and as a photographer, I know that photos can only show you so much of a destination so curating trips have been very rewarding. I feel like I'm sharing that love with others.
Where should everyone go this year?
I like to plan my travels based on seasons! So here’s my list of places to visit: London in the Spring for flowers...Do not miss London in the Spring. South of Italy for the Fall because it's less crowded with tourist. New York...Fall...September is actually the most perfect month for visiting. Lisbon...late October/Beginning of November Paris in the Spring. Scotland in July because you will have sunny days that are hard to come by otherwise. :)
